The ancient agricultural and artisan settlement of Tana is located in the homonymous locality within the Mendrisio highway junction. The architectural complex with a courtyard, typical of the Lombard plain, with its characteristic agricultural and artisanal elements, remains as a testament to a past when everything was once immersed in a delicate strip of nature, rich in small wet environments, flowers, and precious microfauna.
From 2013 to 2021, thanks to a private initiative, significant restoration and redevelopment works have been carried out on the structures and contents of Tana. These include a sawmill, a mill with adjoining stable, rustic rooms and dwellings, the oven, the communal laundry, and, of course, the water supply canal of the Laveggio, with its original locks that powered the wheels of the sawmill and the mill.
The farmhouse has been conservatively restored, respecting current regulations. Materials such as stone, wood, and rough beams have been used, aiming to preserve the rural architectural style of the era while giving it a contemporary reinterpretation, particularly in terms of the design of the interior spaces. The rustic character of the buildings has been maintained to highlight the material integrity of the architectural asset and convey its cultural values.
